nation’s  manifest destiny to spread  over the whole continent. During this time, the United States acquired several
new territories, and new settlers moved westward. 
A. Explain  two reasons why many settlers from the East moved to  territories in the West between 1820 and 1860. 
B. Describe  two of the geographic features that created problems  for the pioneers as they moved across the western half of the continent.
