· 7-9 sentences (these are complete sentences, simple sentences count as ½)
· Direct evidence from the text with citations, page # in parenthesis. (21).
· It must be in your notebook, if you write on looseleaf, staple it in.
· You must have a different type for each entry. Ex you do #1 and #5.
· You should finish a book cover to cover. If you switch you need to explain why in your journal with a* at the bottom of the page.
Options:
1. Make a connection: Connect a character to you or someone you know. OR Connect a situation in the book to something in your life or the life of someone that you know. OR Connect a character to another book that you have read.
2. Ask a question: Ask why a character might have done or said something. Then write what you believe is the correct choice and support it with evidence from the text.
3. Summarize: Summarize a 10 page passage of text including a quote that is an excellent description of what you’ve read.
4. Predict: Predict what might happen next in the book. OR Predict a future event that might occur after the book. OR if you have done this before, you can respond about whether your prediction was correct or incorrect.
5. Picture what you read: Draw a comic strip illustration detailing in voice bubbles and pictures what happened in the section you read. You must have at least 5 frames in the strip. OR Create a cast of characters using magazine cut outs for images and faces with written descriptions of each character. OR Create a collage of cutout pictures and words that represent a setting, character, or conflict from the book.
6. Opinion: Agree or disagree with a character’s choices. Explain what choice they made. Cite the page and explain what you would do and why.
7. Review the author’s writing: Write a critique of the author’s writing style. Provide examples , good and bad of their descriptive passages, word choices, character development, plot sequence, logic and realistic order of action, graphics, layout, theme, moral, etc
8. Plot: Diagram the plot on the pyramid. Label each part with a quote that demonstrates that part. OR Write about the conflicts that occur in the reading. OR Write about how the conflict is resolved. OR Write a description of all the characters. OR Write a description of the setting.
